Mumbai reported 1,463 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, which took its overall tally to 2,47,334, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The death toll in the city climbed to 9,918 after 49 patients succumbed to the infection.As many as 1,289 patients were discharged from hospitals, which pushed the recovery count to 2,16,558. With this, 88 per cent of the total number of patients recovered from the infection so far and Mumbai’s average case doubling rate has improved to 108 days.Maharashtra reported 7,539 new COVID-19 cases. With this, the state’s total tally now stands at 16,25,197. The state continues to host 1.50 lakh active cases. The state’s death toll climbed to 42,831 after recording 198 new deaths on Thursday.The Maharashtra government has allowed lawyers, practicing in courts within the MMR, and their registered clerks to travel in suburban local trains. They can commute only during non-peak hours. Private security guards have also been permitted to travel by local trains. They have to be in uniform and hold valid ID cards.With 55,838 new COVID-19 infections, India’s total cases surge to 77,06,946. Meanwhile, the FDA has approved Remdesivir, the first drug for treating COVID-19.
