Mumbai on Tuesday reported a drop in new COVID-19 cases along with a reduction in the daily death toll. With the detection of 801 cases, the city’s coronavirus tally has increased to 2.52 lakh. Maharashtra registered 5,363 new COVID-19 cases. With this, the total number of cases now stands at 16,54,028. The death toll rose to 43,463 after 115 new deaths were reported. Maharashtra also saw 7,836 recoveries. With this, the number of recoveries now stands at 14,78,496. The state is currently a host to 1,31,544 active cases. The patient recovery rate in the state is 89.39 per cent.Meanwhile, the number of fresh infections recorded in India on Tuesday, 42,704, was the second-lowest since July. After recording deaths below 500 for two consecutive days, India recorded 509 fatalities on Tuesday, taking the cumulative toll to 1,20,005.However, the Union Health Ministry said that the COVID-19 situation has worsened in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala and Delhi amid the ongoing festivals.
