Due to the pandemic and lockdown, cinema halls, theatres, shooting of movies, serials and plays have been completely shut, affecting the livelihood of lakhs of workers.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured them that he would look into their issues while he asked for suggestions. The members also appealed to the CM to allow the resumption of post-production work.
Director Kedar Shinde who attended the video conference said the meeting was about how we can move forward as everyone is affected due to COVID-19.
“Among all the sectors, entertainment industry will be the last one to open. The Chief Minister listened to our views. He said that steps will be taken to start things that can be done.”
Speaking to Mirror Online, Sameer Vidwans said, “It was a detailed meeting which went on for nearly two hours. Various issues pertaining to those who work on the backstage, serials, films, folk art, instrument players and studios were discussed.”
The writer and director said the Chief Minister asked them to give their suggestions so that he could look into it.
Though starting shooting immediately seems difficult, Vidwans said, for the first time, they were able to convey their issues to the CM. “The entertainment industry is big and lakhs of people survive on it and he assured us that he will see what can be done.”
The members also said that they will be following social distancing norms wherever possible when they resume work.
During the meeting, producers also appealed to allow post-production work to resume which they promised would be done with just one or two persons going to the studio so social distancing norms can be adhered to. A similar request has already made made by FWICE for post production work related to Bollywood productions.
Speaking about the impact on the industry, Vidwans said, though the directors and producers have created a corpus and have been supporting backstage artistes, they too have limitations. “The reopening of theatres is likely to take time. We can work on movies that has been completed and can postpone it. OTT platforms are another option. But it has a larger impact on plays and those working backstage.”
“Due to COVID-19, the budgets will also be lowered and it will have both long-term and short term impacts,” he added.
