- Pandya had returned to India from UAE on Thursday (November 12)
After Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the Mumbai Aiport Customs are now set to investigate Krunal Pandya’s case. The 29-year-old was detained by the DRI following his return to India from UAE, where he represented IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI).
While multiple reports suggested that he was detained with luxury watches and gold, it has been confirmed that he was carrying four watches. The price of luxury watches is under Rs 1 crore. A report has also suggested that Pandya wasn’t aware of the permissible limit and he was also ready to pay the fine. It isn’t known whether Pandya is still in Mumbai or at his home in Baroda.
Krunal and his younger brother Hardik have often flaunted their luxury watches on Instagram. As per Mumbai Mirror, DRI was keeping a watch on Krunal’s social media posts.
Unlike Hardik, Krunal wasn’t named in the national squad and he returned to India. Hardik and other national players reached Australia on Thursday (November 12).
Retained by MI at a high price of Rs 8.8 crore, Pandya had a disappointing season. He scored 109 runs off 91 balls and scalped six wickets in 50.1 overs. He has been away from the national team right since the start of the year but can force his return if he does well in domestic cricket and IPL 2021. Pandya is an India A regular.
Despite below-par returns from their senior all-rounder, MI added another feather in their cap and won the IPL title for the fifth time. Chennai Super Kings, who are three-time champions, are next to MI on the list of most title victories.
Despite low returns, the MI team management isn’t expected to release Pandya. If there’s a mega-auction, they will likely use the Right to Match (RTM) card to retain his services.
