- The woman is said to be mentally unstable
Mumbai: The skeletal remains of a woman were found under a cot at her home in Khar’s Chuim village. Allegedly, the 83-year-old woman’s mentally-ill daughter had been living with the remains in their cottage. The body of the elderly woman was found on Friday.
Some of the woman’s neighbours approached the police, claiming that the elderly woman had been throwing garbage on the roads. The neighbours also complained of hearing strange sounds from the woman’s cottage.
A police officer reached the spot to look into the allegations made by the woman’s neighbours and rang her doorbell. While no one answered the door, he could hear sounds coming from the house. Following this, the officer noticed that the door was open and he stepped in.
Remains covered with bedsheet, put under cot
The cop saw a woman sitting on a cot and underneath it, he saw a body that had been covered with a bedsheet. When he asked the mentally-ill woman about the body, she did not give a clear answer. Following this, he removed the bedsheet and saw the skeletal remains of a human. The cop then called the police control room and the body was sent for an autopsy, The Times of India reported.
An examination of the woman’s documents revealed that the mentally unstable was identified as Mariot Fernandes and the skeletal remains were of Evon Fernandes. Evon’s husband passed away nearly a decade ago and she has three daughters. Initially, Mariot told the police that Evon passed away in March but later changed the month to August.
A senior police officer said, “We spoke to their relatives who said Mariot was mentally disturbed and asked the police to perform the last rites, saying they would not be able to attend the funeral. We have sent Mariot to JJ Hospital where she is being examined for her health issues.
